RAIDIS ESTATE ‘CHEEKY’ PINOT GRIS 2022

Description

Pinot Gris/Grigio is a dark skinned grape, not that one would know it given upwards of 95% (speculative figure!) of the wines it makes being white. Coonawarra’s only plantings of the variety, the wine is given four days skin contact. Not so much an amber or orange wine (no oxidative handling), more a blush, it’s a style of texture and interest, zippy with weight building on the finish. A vin gris if we’re being technical.

“It may come as a surprise to some that a Coonawarra producer was ahead of the curve with skin fermenting pinot gris for rose in Australia, but hey, Raidis have always done things a bit different. They’ve been at this style a while. Good stuff. It’s a pinker/redder colour than the bottle shot here too.

It’s a delicious drink, chewy in texture, bright in acidity, pears and faint raspberry and a little Aperol going on. Vibrant, fun, fruity, spicy, a good deal of nice, zesty citrus tang. It’s a summery wine but coming to room temperature it works well too as a more serious drink. Good stuff, to repeat myself.” 92 points, Mike Bennie, Winefront
