Piantaferro Intrigo is a brand of Vincola Tombacco, a producer working with a number of Italian regions. Originally a fruit farm, the company in 1919 directed its efforts to the wine market, planting its own vineyards and producing wine. Under current stewardship of brothers Cristian and Andrea Tombacco recent implementations encompass a sophisticated bottling and research plant, to assist high quality wines at sensible price points.
A fistful of fruit from southern Italy here, Negroamaro transalting as ‘the bitter black one’. From vineyards around different provinces of Puglia, a satisfyingly rich and rounded red.
Intense deep ruby red in colour, leads with mature black berry fruits and spices, coffee and cinnamon on the nose. Full bodied and rounded in the mouth with an earthy richness with abundant plum, prune and dark chocolate backed with a scattering of broad tannins to give texture.
