Franco Mondo Nizza DOCG 2016
$ 97.00 incl. GST
Description
Nizza is a relatively new appellation, designated from vintage 2014; it effectively represents to Barbera what Barolo and Barbaresco represent to Nebbiolo. The hills sit between 150 and 350 metres above sea level, with a variety of sand/marl/loam and sandstone soils.
Rigorous fruit-sorting is employed, and while the DOCG requires a minimum of six months in oak, Franco Mondo’s Nizza sits for 24 months in French barrels; 1 year in new 300L casks and another year in new tonneau (900L). Full and intense, this combines fruit weight and generosity with structure. Barbera’s flowing red fruits are abound here wrapped around dried roses and spice, delivering further impressions of blueberry, coffee, menthol, cocoa and cinnamon. An ‘as good as it gets’ expression.
