Insieme translates as ‘together’, borne of close cooperation of the winemaking team with growers across Italy. A great introduction to Italian grapes from their native regions, these are well made wines which are varietally and regionally correct, though far more importantly delicious, versatile and superb value for drinkers discovering European wine, or as solid weeknight and casual drinkers.
Insieme Frizzante$ 20.90 incl. GST
A blend of Glera and other white varieties, made by Charmat method and sealed under screw cap, hence can’t be labelled Prosecco, though is a very similar beast. 10.5% alcohol and 10 g/L residual sugar, though drinks drier than the numbers suggest. A fine bubble, straw yellow with greenish tinges, has a little doughiness with Granny Smith apples, preserved lemon and citrus. Almost like a Moscato at a quarter the sweetness, great for making spritzers, easy afternoon drinking, or a sensational breakfast wine.
Insieme Nero d’Avola 2018$ 23.00 incl. GST
Grown in Sicily near Arigento. 5 months in seasoned French oak, this was picked due to its balance of delivering juicy red fruits with the herbal grunt expected from this grape. Tobacco and dried herbs with ripe tannins round out the easy palate, pizza wine through and through.
Insieme Pinot Grigio 2019$ 23.00 incl. GST
From Veneto, raised without oak and classic in style, this is a more fruit driven expression than the Alto Adige wines of Italy’s north. Pear and green melon fruit with moreish juiciness and a zesty mineral undertone, a super easy glass to glasser.
Insieme Primitivo del Salento 2019$ 23.00 incl. GST
Our first shipment of this wine – we were seeking a juicy and lusty expression of this variety and this well delivers. A great wine for those discovering Italian wine or imports generally, loads of jammy fruits here and plenty of richness and power with a rustic edge, though ultimately juicy and satisfying. One for glugging alongside pizza, pasta and comforting protein dishes.
Winter 2021 Mixed Dozenincl. GST
Leaning towards reds here, we’re running the spectrum from juiciness courtesy of 22 Degree Halo, to mid week quaffers in Baron Léopold’s delicious Bordeaux red. We’ve some bright Italian flavours through Insieme Primitivo, Intrigo Negroamaro and Greenstone’s excellent 2017 Sangiovese release, plus a couple of lovely fireside contenders in Schwarz Meta Shiraz and Lenton Brae Lady Douglas Cabernet.
The occasional moment calls for something other than red, so a Montfin rosé is perfect for when you’re eating spicy, and the Brackenwood Riesling and Lenton Brae Chardonnay both nicely textured and not out of place in these cooler months.
Full price of this dozen is $330. We’re offering it at $265 with free delivery, a saving of 20%.
