Dilettante / Clare Valley, SA

Winemaker Marnie Roberts, a Clare Valley inhabitant since 2008, is best known for her excellent label Matriarch and Rogue, specialising in Italian and alternative varieties.

Marnie was offered Sangiovese from the Wakefield Vineyard in southern Clare several years ago.  M&R’s Sangiovese source was covered, but the fruit was too good to pass up, so Dilettante was born as an unashamed fun side project. The offering has since expanded with the release of a delicious and varietally correct Fiano, treading the line between concentration and texture versus freshness.

The naming is derived from Italian Dilettare, meaning ‘to delight’.

    $ 25.00 incl. GST

    100% Sangiovese from the Wakefield vineyard in Leasingham, southern Clare.  Wild fermented and raised in seasoned oak, unfined and unfiltered.

    Made as a juicy and slurpy vino di tavola style, this dials the brightness factor right up.  Cherry fruit, cherry pips, Amaro, orange peel and some forest floor/undergrowth on the nose, giving way to a palate of sweet and sour cherries, dark chocolate/cocoa, raspberry, and some beautifully ripe grainy tannins in an easy medium bodied package.  An absolute crowd pleaser style, built for pizza, pasta, barbecues and weeknight guzzling, with enough personality and presence to be taken more seriously.

  • Dilettante Fiano 2024

    $ 25.00 incl. GST

    From a single site in Leasingham, wild fermented.  20% of the fruit is left on skins for four days to build texture, all fruit fermented and aged in stainless steel.

    White gold in the glass with an expressive nose of green grapes, almond paste, honeysuckle, tangerine and apricots.  Structurally interesting, balances a little oiliness with cut from acidity, texture meets tension. Its almond paste/almond meal note gives a bittering balance, also offering up apricot and tropical fruit flavours.  Solid concentration and length, a sight slipperiness to the finish, varietal and nicely poised.
