Domaine D’Eole Coteaux D’Aix-En-Provence Rosé 2022

$ 48.00 incl. GST

Description

55% Grenache, 15% Cinsault, 15% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, 5% Counoise and 5% Carignan

It may be daft to call this rosé vinous, but against the light and smashable ‘drink in the sun’ entry level Provence rosés this is immediately serious, long, sappy and complex, with an array of detailed fruit and saffron/earthy flavours and a brush of fruit tannin.  A rosé one can drink with a steak, fantastic length here and plenty of hedonistic pleasure.  A grown-up style.

“How much does importer Felix Riley love rosato!

“Peach, blood orange, redcurrant, rosehip and dried flowers, a little nutmeg and spice, and a smattering of smoky dried herb.  It’s crisp, sports a little blood orange bitterness, a fine milky/chalky texture, peach skin and citrus tang, a little leesy creaminess, and a tight and sappy finish of good length.  Classic Provence.”  93 points, Gary Walsh, Winefront

Domaine D’Eole / Coteaux D’Aix-En-Provence

One Of Provence’S Most Highly Regarded Estates

Domaine d’Eole was founded in 1992 and purchased in 1996 by French financier Christian Raymont. German viticulturalist Matthias Wimmer was employed the same year and is retained to this day. Situated in Eygalières at the base of the dramatic Alpilles mountain range, the combination of high sunlight hours, well drained limestone soils and mistral wind is an ideal combination for the practice of organic viticulture, with the estate certified since 1996.

The house style is of complexity beyond regional norms, the minimal intervention wines detailed and energetic. Domaine d’Eole is an excellent representative of the Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence appellation, with these wines often weightier and more acid driven due to the continental climate influences.
