Stappa / Pyrenees/Riverland


A new urban winery in Williamstown.  Winemaker Dan Henderson has a masterful touch at crafting finely balanced, medium bodied wines, showcasing a fun and playful twist on familiar and obscure grape varieties.  Pristine fruit from top sources (Chapoutier and Ricca Terra vineyards) deftly handled meets inner west swagger, a fine confluence of contemporary and classic sensibilities.

  • Stappa Zibbibo Col Fondo 2022

    Grown in Ricca Terra’s Riverland (SA) vineyards.  A naturally bright and aromatic variety, leaps out of the glass with passionfruit and tropical fruits, with toasted bread.

  • Stappa Tinta Amerela 2023

    From Ricca Terra’s Riverland (SA) vineyards, Stappa receive all of the whole two rows grown.  One of the blending components of Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 3, rare to see it vinified solo.  A gorgeous wine, unoaked, medium bodied, lush cooked red fruits on the nose, but incredibly fresh and deft to drink.  A dot of iodine minerality balances the flowing red fruits, ultra easy to love.

  • Stappa Dog Town Grenache 2022

    Early picked fruit, organically grown in Chapoutier’s Pyrenees vineyard.  Mid-weight and fresh, full of red cherries, strawberries, roses, white pepper and quintessential Central Victorian spice.  Amazingly complex yet sessionable.

  • Stappa Dog Town Viognier 2022

    Early picked fruit, organically grown in Chapoutier’s Pyrenees vineyard.  One of the most balanced Viognier out there, intense and avoids the oiliness/heat/bitterness which frequently plagues the variety.  Bright and citrus led, woven with green apples and a gentle impression of salinity.

  • Stappa Dog Town Syrah 2022

    Organically grown in Chapoutier’s Pyrenees vineyard.  Lacks the eucalypt character of many Shiraz of this region, amazingly long and pinpoint tannins, beautifully constructed.  Brooding dark fruit, pepper and spice, as per the house style amazingly fresh but plenty of stuffing here for longer term cellaring.
