Domaine D’Eole / Coteaux D’Aix-En-Provence

3664

One Of Provence’S Most Highly Regarded Estates

Domaine d’Eole was founded in 1992 and purchased in 1996 by French financier Christian Raymont. German viticulturalist Matthias Wimmer was employed the same year and is retained to this day. Situated in Eygalières at the base of the dramatic Alpilles mountain range, the combination of high sunlight hours, well drained limestone soils and mistral wind is an ideal combination for the practice of organic viticulture, with the estate certified since 1996.

The house style is of complexity beyond regional norms, the minimal intervention wines detailed and energetic. Domaine d’Eole is an excellent representative of the Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence appellation, with these wines often weightier and more acid driven due to the continental climate influences.

  • Domaine D’Eole Coteaux D’Aix-En-Provence Rosé 2023

    $ 48.00 incl. GST

    60% Grenache blended with Cinsault, Carignan, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cournoise

    Another solid release – vinous, long, sappy, gastronomic, as ever a masterclass in refreshing complexity.  Peaches, apricots, red currants and blood orange flavours give plenty of fruit presence, with bittering and savoury elements of citrus rind, saffron, botanical and Provence herbs.  Retains its defining hallmark of amazing length brushed with a little fruit tannin and a creamy element on the finish.  A superb food wine, able to stand up to robust cuisine.

    “Classic style. Raspberry, peach ice tea, tangerine, a bit stony. Soft, balanced, fleshy, some pink grapefruit, light chalky grip, good length. Lovely. It’s pretty much textbook Provence rosé, and you couldn’t really ask for more within the parameters of this style of wine.” 94 points, Gary Walsh, Winefront

  • Domaine D’Eole Coteaux D’Aix-En-Provence Red 2021

    $ 50.00 incl. GST

    45% Syrah, 45% Grenache, 10% Carignan.  Aged in seasoned oak, concrete vat and concrete egg.

    We’ve loved drinking Provence reds in Provence, though the sometimes loose-knit, rustic style is best left as a holiday indulgence or romance.  Here’s one which firmly translates.

    Not dissimilar to a good Côtes du Rhône with more structural lightness; blackberry conserve, coffee grinds, saltbush, plums and creosote.  Bright fruited with some violet notes lifting the palate, gently grainy tannins give nice length with a little saline finish to balance.  There’s something about Provence reds that screams ‘lunchtime wine’, with these ever versatile and well suited to grazing boards and a wide range of hot and cold dishes.

  • Domaine D’Eole Coteaux D’Aix-En-Provence White 2023

    $ 50.00 incl. GST

    50% each Rolle aka Vermentino and Grenache Blanc, raised in stainless steel.

    There’s plenty of pleasure in Provence whites; the drive and length of Eole differentiates from some of the pulpier regional expressions.  Peony/white flowers and apricot lead the aromatics, with the palate delivering more apricot, yellow and green apples, lime skin and melons, with a flinty mineral undertone.  A long and gently textural style which will sing with fleshy white fish, seafood, goats cheese and grilled vegetables.
