Description

An over-deliverer, quite the Chardy here.  Fermented wild, raised in new and seasoned French oak, naturally settled and bottled unfiltered.

The key here is a mixture of Chardonnay clones – Margaret River’s emblematic Gin Gin (renowned for richness and almost buttered popcorn flavours) is complemented by an array of French clones, which give nuance and aromatics. A saline backbone, tightly wound, continues to build dimensions with further time in bottle. Spice, smoke, lime, butter all make appearances. Complex, bright and fruit driven.

“An excellent vintage for MR Chardonnay, though I seem to recall from the press release that this was the only Chardonnay made in 2019, so perhaps a benefactor of that, erm, fact.

Lemon oil, white peach, fennel, spicy almond biscuits and vanilla. Moves into a more tangy grapefruit flavour, oak adds a gentle cream and spice, though it’s in no way overt, slight bitter citrus zest character, tangy acidity and a pretty tight and zingy finish of fine length. A claim to fame is them being the first producer to popularise the Bordelaise white blend of Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, now a flagbearer for the region.
