Although the estate’s entry level wine, nothing entry level about it. Fruit is harvested from 70 year old vines, and after a little skin contact to build texture it sits in stainless steel tanks for 18 months, with monthly inoxidative batonnage to build further weight. The wine then sits in bottle a further six months before release.
Amazingly complex and captivating. There’s the classic line of Chablis oystershell brine, though this has flesh on its bones and actually tastes like Chardonnay, in direct contrast to the often dominant ultra fine and lean Chablis style. This release sees a pleasing flint/gunsmoke character often seen on the estate’s Premier Cru wines, with further dimensions of black tea and even blackcurrant.
