60% Grenache, 30% Tibouren, 10% Mourvèdre
Cheering to finally add a rosé containing Tibouren to our stable, a grape unique to Provence and typically only used in rosé production. This has a richness to the colour, onion skin and copper. The nose is all rose petal, apricot, mandarin and grapefruit citrus skin. The wine has a distinctive texture and profile in the mouth, with its flavours and indeed overall feeling long and complex. Citrus skin and fruit, quince paste, apricots, pears, and a sprinkle of cinnamon and clove all play out through the palate, a style more about fruit and less about the pronounced salinity of some rosés, though ever dry and savoury and unmistakably Provence.
Château Paquette / Provence Fréjus
The Estate Behind Provence’S Frejus Appellation
A small estate of 25 hectares, farmed by four generations of the Paquette family since 1952. Long active in promoting the Fréjus appellation, the Paquettes were largely responsible for getting it recognized as its own AOP in 2005. Today the estate is managed by Jérôme Paquette, who also consults to numerous other Provence producers, and his daughter Claire, a trained engineer and oenologist. The poor volcanic and sandstone soils raise wines typical of the appellation, concentrated, fresh and fruity. Viticulture is certified organic.
