MASSEY VINTAGE FORTIFIED SHIRAZ 2009 375ML

Second release of this cheeky half bottle of warmth.  This comes from fruit grown in the Huey's Patch vineyard, which is left on the vine a further three weeks, and fortified with eight year old brandy spirit.  Maturation is 2 years in older American and French oak, 50:50.  Weighs in at 20% alcohol.

This looks like, well, fortified Shiraz, rather than the rancio and brown sugar characters of a traditional Port style.  The black fruit is very much alive and fresh, tasted next to a Huey's Shiraz the parentage is obvious.  A fun style which drinks superbly as a younger wine.

Massey

Generous small batch wines made with a whole lot of love

Bevan Ferguson established Massey with the 2004 vintage, from the get-go making hearty and generous wines.  From vineyards around McLaren Vale, these are small batch hand-made wines in a contemporary fruit bright style, borne of larger format oak, wild ferments, and vineyards farmed to organic principles. The reds are typically released with bottle age, and firmly fit the bill for experiences of comfort or hedonistic drinking.
